Tour de France
The Tour de France is an annual bike race that was first staged back in 1903. It is a gruelling, highly-competitive race that tests riders to their limits and awards them with one of the most prestigious prizes in professional sport if they come out on top. The race route changes every year, but it always covers a distance of around 2,200 miles and takes riders through some of the most iconic man-made and natural landmarks in Europe, including the Champs-Élysées in Paris. Teams from all over the world compete in the Tour de France and these global teams are edging ever-closer to the French. France still tops the table for all-time wins, which is in no small part down to the dominance that they enjoyed during the first few decades and throughout the 1960s and 1980s. In recent years, however, Spanish and British riders have repeatedly found themselves on the podium, with Chris Froome being one of the most successful riders that this country has produced. Tour de France is a long, scenic race that always brings out the best in its riders and gives spectators and online sports betting fans plenty to get excited about, from the bucolic views to the legendary fast-paced racing.
TOUR DE FRANCE - THE EVENT!
The riders in the Tour de France are known as the peloton. This word is used to refer to the bunched-up riders in a race and can be heard many times during a live broadcast. The peloton is formed by between 20 and 22 teams of 9 riders from countries all over the world. They race over many segments across a 23-day period, reported per segment in Karambas fast results page. The Tour de France is a team event, but it’s one like no other. On the one hand, they all follow team tactics and try to work together as a unit. However, the ultimate goal of these tactics is to favour one or two individuals on any of the race’s stages. The winner of the biggest prize is the one who covers the distance of the course is the shortest combined time. This is the famous “yellow jersey” or “maillot jaune”. It’s what the riders work towards and what they are ultimately remembered for. There is also a green jersey, which goes to the rider who has the highest finishes; the King of the Mountains jersey, which goes to the rider who shows the most competence over the steepest climbs; and the white jersey, which goes to the best young rider.
